Artist bio

Alex Kuznetsov is a Belarusian-born, Lisbon and Paris -based contemporary artist whose practice centers on abstraction as a form of resistance — resistance to speed, spectacle, and surface legibility. Working primarily in abstract painting, Kuznetsov employs a tempered gestural language shaped by slow, layered processes where rhythm, duration, and structure become inseparable.

His compositions are not conceived as images, but as conditions — constructed surfaces that unfold gradually, inviting sustained attention and physical presence. Through accumulation, material weight, and the interplay between control and chance, his work explores states of flux, impermanence, and spatial-temporal tension.

Delving into the unconscious, Kuznetsov’s paintings communicate a wide spectrum of emotional experience through color, movement, and abstract form. His practice remains deliberately open, extending beyond painting into object-based work and language, while maintaining a consistent focus on perception and time.

In a culture driven by acceleration, Kuznetsov’s work stands still — not as retreat, but as proposition. A slower tempo. A deeper way of looking.
