Eric Haacht is a self-taught portrait painter based in a remote corner of the UK. Since painting his first portrait in 2011, he has focused exclusively on the human face using it as a means to explore the immediacy and artificiality of life and death. His distorted portraits question the nature of identity and the personas we construct, particularly in an age dominated by social media.
Despite their abstraction, Haacht’s works remain unmistakably human. Each face emerges from a tangle of paint, pulled and smeared across the canvas, capturing the tension between reality and illusion, the inner self and its outward projection.
